Pierino Belli

Pierino Belli ( born March 20, 1502 Alba in Piedmont, † December 31, 1575 in Turin) was a senior Piedmontese soldier and lawyer.

He served as commander of the troops of the Holy Roman Empire in the Piedmont and in 1560 by Emmanuel Philibert, Duke of Savoy, appointed State Council. Three years later he published the magazine " De Re Militari et Bello Tractatus " ( "Treatise on Military Matters and Warfare "), which is one of the most comprehensive works of that time to military and martial law as well as early work in the history of modern international humanitarian law applies. Due to the legal-historical relevance published among others in the years 1936, 1964 and 1995 editions of the book.

In his native town of Alba was named after him with Via Pierino Belli a road.
