Piero Chiara

Piero Chiara ( born March 23, 1913 in Luino, † December 31, 1986 in Varese ) was an Italian writer.

Chiara studied law, worked as a photographer in between and came looking for work to France.

For many years he then worked in various parts of Italy as a judicial officer, in financial management. In 1943 he was sentenced by a fascist court of " subversive activity " and fled to Switzerland. Here he taught at the Italian School in train.

After the war he worked as a journalist and translator. 1958 Chiara published in the journal Gaffe two stories, which he published in 1962 to the humorous novel about the Lombard town of existence II piange perfectly flat (about: The Weeping plate ) processed. The response encouraged him to continue writing. Two years later, the division and soon became a great success, as a film under the title of sisters share everything.

A 1965 -publicized book about Sicily, which carries autobiographical, was awarded the Charles Veillon Prize. In addition to his literary activities Chiara has also appeared as an editor of anthologies and classical works.
