Piero Manzoni ( born July 13, 1933, Soncino, Cremona, † February 6, 1963 in Milan) - full name Conte Meroni Manzoni di Chiosca e Poggiolo (English: Count Meroni Manzoni of Chiosca and Poggiolo ) - was an Italian artist, is regarded as a pioneer of conceptual art. His work has been shown among others at the documenta 4 in Kassel and the Venice Biennale in 1972.
Life and work
Manzoni began in 1951 a law school in Milan and in 1954 an art and philosophy in Rome, which he continued in Milan in 1955. In 1956 he signed with another manifesto " To the discovery of the image zone " and 1957 manifestos " to an organic painting" and "Against the style." 1957 participated in the international " Gruppo Nucleare ".
Inspired by the artists of the Informal Alberto Burri, Lucio Fontana and Jean Fautrier, Manzoni experimented with new materials. From 1957 emerged, inspired by a visit to an exhibition of Yves Klein, the first Achrome - unpainted, structured by the application of gypsum canvases. In the same year Manzoni had his first solo exhibitions in Milan and Como. In 1959 he opened together with Enrico Castellani gallery " Azimuth ". They brought an eponymous magazine out, in which they strove for a combination of art and poetry, and it seemed to move away from the " Gruppo Nucleare ". From 1961 to 1962 she traveled in the Netherlands, Germany, Yugoslavia and Belgium.
Manzoni began producing lines, the longest is created with a length of 7200 m (!) In Denmark. After completion, the painting grounds were packed and then should no longer be accessible. This was followed by actions in which the elementary products of the artist played a role: Corpi d' Aria (air body) Fiato d' Artista ( Artist breath) and the spectacular Merda d' artista project ( " artist shit "). Manzoni studded 150 chicken eggs with his thumbprint, and gave them to the public for eating. In addition, he developed his series Achrome are joined together in the materials of various kinds. On 6 February 1963 Manzoni died, not 30 years old, in his studio in Milan of a heart attack.
