Pierre Aycelin de Montaigut

Pierre de Aycelin Montaigut († November 8, 1388 in Reims ) was a French bishop, cardinal and diplomat; He was named Cardinal of Laon.

However, he was the nephew of Gilles II de Aycelin Montaigut, unlike this doctor of canon law. Pierre Aycelin was Benedictine and Prior of St- Martin-des -Champs. He became in 1359 the chancellor of Count Johann of Poitou, the son of King John II, in 1361 Bishop of Nevers, in 1371 Bishop of Laon. In 1383 he was elevated to cardinal.

Pierre Aycelin was among the advisers only the King Charles V, after his death, then to the consultants the uncle of the new king, Charles VI .. He played a role in the support of France for the Pope Clement VII ( 1379 ), then tried in vain to bring the County of Flanders under the sovereignty of Avignon ( 1383 ).
