Pierre Beauchamp

Called Pierre Beauchamp and Charles and Charles -Louis Beauchamp ( born October 30, 1631 Paris, † in February 1705 in Paris) was a French violinist, composer, dancer and choreographer.

Biography

Pierre Beauchamp ( Beauchamp ) comes from a dancer Dynasty. Beauchamp made his debut in 1648 at the court of Louis XIV in the Ballet du dérèglement des passions. There he worked with Jean- Baptiste Lully and Jean- Baptiste Molière, where in merging music, text, dance, costumes and stage design, the Comédie -ballet ( Ballet Comedy ) was born. Beauchamp was a dancer, violinist, composer and choreographer. He choreographed et al for the most important operas of Robert Cambert and Pierre Perrin. From the death of Lully ( 1687 ), he worked mainly for Jesuit colleges. He trained numerous dancers from as Blondy, Jean Favier, Louis Pécour among others

Beauchamp developed at the suggestion of the king a dance notation, which was published by Raoul Auger Feuillet in 1700 - as the first. Beauchamp wanted to sue for his right to the invention of this document in court. The action was dismissed on 28 July 1704. Because of Beauchamps demise in 1705, there was no further input to the application. Thus Feuillet was long regarded as the inventor of this notation. Since known this fact, the notation in the dance science now referred to as Beuachamp - Feuillet notation ( Richardson 1947). Beauchamp is considered the inventor of the five positions, as they are still taught in classical ballet in a slightly modified form to this day.

In the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris as both librettos also composed music he received to his ballets. However, there is no choreography that demonstrably composed by him or was recorded. Three choreographies are brought in connection with his name: 1) " Sarbande de Mr. de Beauchamp "; 2) rigaudon " de mr bauchand "; 3) rigaudon " de mr bauchand ".

The manuscript of the " Sarbande de Mr. de Beauchamp " is located in the Derra de Moroda Dance Archives of the University of Salzburg (Catalog No. 244). It is a 12 (not numbered ) pages listed Sarabande. This Sarabande is different both because of their length, their technical difficulties as well as the peculiar notation of some steps from all other Sarabande choreographies or from the standard repertoire of traditional in Beuachamp - Feuillet notation dances. Despite the assignment to Beauchamps person in the title the authorship of the Sarabande must remain open until further notice. A complete publication ( facsimile, transcription, and critical report) is still pending.

Apart from this Sarabande are two Rigaudons " de mr bauchand " attributed (Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, Ms. Fr. 14884, p 180), which form a direct result Danse à Deux. The write-up was, however, in the other hand as the notation of choreography and seems extremely doubtful ( Little / Marsh, p 134). In addition, it can be stated that this choreography is distinguished by certain peculiarities and archaisms of the choreographies about Pécours Louis and Jean balloons and possibly can be dated to 1680-1700. The music is anonymous and possibly comes from the choreographers, a practice that was common.
