Pierre Briant

Pierre Briant ( born September 30, 1940 in Angers ) is a French historian.

Briant studied from 1960 to 1965 History at the University of Poitiers. In 1965 the teaching examination for history. He received his doctorate with a dissertation on the ancient Macedonian history during the time of Antigonus I Monophthalmos 1972. From 1974 to 1999 he was Professor of Ancient History at the Université de Toulouse- Le Mirail. Since 1999, Briant has been a professor at the Collège de France in Paris.
