Pierre Dangeard

Pierre Dangeard, full name is Pierre Jean -Louis Dangeard ( born February 18, 1895 in Poitiers, † August 23 1970 in Pléneuf -Val -André ) was a French botanist. He was the son of the botanist and mycologist Pierre Clement Augustin Dangeard. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " PJLDang. ".

Life and work

Pierre Dangeard was born on 18 February 1895 in Poitiers. His father had four years ago, coming from Caen, received an appointment as Professor of Botany at the Faculty of Poitiers and the following year, in September 1892, married the 20 year old Louise Henriette Labrosse. Pierre Dangeard came as the second of four children to the world. His older brother Henri, however, died in 1899 at age six, so Pierre now approached the role of the elders of the siblings.

In 1909 the family moved to Paris, as the father had received a job at the prestigious Academie des Sciences here. Pierre took his baccalaureate and began a science degree that he completed in 1914 with the license. From 1915 to 1918 he fought in the First World War and was wounded. In 1922 he was appointed a member of the Legion of Honour. After military service and his recovery Dangeard took his studies of nature again. It was 1923, Dr. sci. PhD and published his doctoral thesis in the journal of his father.

In the year after his graduation Pierre Dangeard married in October 1924, just a year younger Madeleine Colin (1899 - 1944). From the marriage his daughter Genevieve emerged. However, his wife died in 1944, three years later, in March 1947 married Pierre Dangeard again, this time Anne Marie Coville (1908 - 1998).. From this marriage the son of Bernard emerged.

Dangeard remained after obtaining his doctorate in Paris in 1928, where he received an appointment as assistant professor at the Faculty of Science - until he was appointed in 1932 as professor at the Faculte des Sciences to Bordeaux. Scientifically, Pierre Dangeard specializing in marine algae. Several occasions he participated in marine expeditions, organized by Jean Charcot aboard the research vessel Pourquoi Pas? were carried out. Probably he worked closely with his brother, the geologists and oceanographers Louis Dangeard.

After his retirement from the Department of Botany Pierre Dangeard lived in Pléneuf -Val -André in Brittany. He died on 23 August 1970 at the age of 75 years.
