Pierre Gardel

Pierre Gardel, with full name Pierre -Gabriel ( born February 4, 1758 in Nancy, † October 18th 1840 in Paris ) was a French dancer and choreographer.

Gardel is the son of a dancing master from the Royal Ballet at the court of the Polish king Stanislaw Leszczynski I.. Gardel made ​​his debut in 1771 as a danseur noble in smaller roles. In 1774 he was at the École de danse de l' Académie royale de musique. In the same year he came to the Opéra de Paris, where he studied with his elder brother Maximilien Gardel ( 1741-1787 ). In 1780 he was appointed Primo Ballerino, had to quit for health reasons relatively soon but his career as a dancer. In 1783 he became assistant to his brother Maximilien. 1787 was appointed to succeed his deceased brother Maximilien Maître de ballet. His assistant was Louis Milon. In 1795 he married the dancer Marie -Elisabeth -Anne Boubert, called Miller. From 1790-1829 he created numerous ballets. In a minuet with Marie Taglioni he joined in 1829 for the last time.

He choreographed the dances to the operas Le triomphe de Trajan Le Sueur and Persuis (1807 ) and Les Danaïdes (1808 ) and Tarare (1787 ) by Antonio Salieri; to Aspasie of Grétry (1789 ), demophon (1788 ), Anacréon (1803 ) and Les Abencerrages (1807 ) by Luigi Cherubini; Gaspare Spontini to La vestal (1807 ) and Olimpie (1819 ); and Gioacchino Rossini's Le siège de Corinthe (1826 ) and Moïse et Pharaon (1827 ).
