Pierre Guillaumat

Pierre Guillaumat (* August 5, 1909 in La Fleche, Sarthe, † August 28, 1991 ) was a French politician and industrialist. He was the first Minister of Defense of the 5th Republic and founder of the company Elf Aquitaine.

Guillaumat Pierre started his career in the French secret BCRA before moving into politics. He was from 1 June 1958 to January 8, 1959 Defense under President Charles de Gaulle and Prime Minister Michel Debré and 23 November 1960 to February 20, 1961 Minister of Education. He became a key figure of the Gaullist quickly and brought the French nuclear weapons program rolling. In 1962 he is one of the founders of the state oil company Elf Aquitaine and the first director of the company.
