Pierre Harvey

Pierre Harvey, CM ( born March 24, 1957 in Rimouski ) is a Canadian athlete. Was the first male athlete from Canada, he attended both summer Olympics ( as a cyclist ) and Olympic Winter Games (as cross-country skiers ).

Harvey won the 1979 Canada Winter Games three gold medals in the long run. For the first time in the Olympic Games, he took part in Montreal as a cyclist in 1976. There he reached the 24th place in the road race. Between 1982 and 1988, Harvey took part in cross-country competitions and reached at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1982 in Oslo the 16th Place over 15 km. Overall, he won three races in his career, including the 50 km race at Holmenkollen 1988. At the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988 he said the Olympic oath of the athletes and reached the 14th place over 30 km.

1988 Harvey received the Order of Canada. He was inducted into the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame in 1992, the inclusion in the Canadian Cycling Hall of Fame followed in 2006.

His son, Alex Harvey was as cross-country skiing at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and it was 2011 in Oslo World Champion in the team sprint.
