Pierre Joseph Bonnaterre

Priest, Abbé Pierre Joseph Bonnaterre (* 1752 in Aveyron, † September 20, 1804 in Saint- Eulalie ) was a French priest, naturalist and zoologist. His official biological author abbreviation is " Bonnat. ".

Life and work

In 1772 he entered the seminary of Rodez and was ordained a priest on February 22, 1779. He was vicar went to Paris, where he participated in the drafting of the encyclopedia. He studied the theory of nature and also also medicine and in 1798 published a book with medical content. In 1796 he founded the zoo, jardin zoologique in Rodez and was on May 16, 1797 Professor at the École centrale de l' Aveyron in 1797.
