Pierre-Joseph van Beneden

Pierre- Joseph van Beneden ( born December 19, 1809 in Mechelen, Belgium, † January 8, 1894 in Leuven ) was a Belgian parasitologist and paleontologist who ( Cestoda ) is mainly for his work on tapeworms known.

Life

From 1835 he was professor of zoology at the Catholic University of Leuven. He produced mainly studies and writings on the created his own concept of commensalism. Van Beneden was a member of the Linnean Society. His son was the biologist Edouard van Beneden ( 1846-1910 ).
