Pierre Joxe

Pierre Joxe ( born November 28, 1934 in Paris ) is a French politician of the Parti Socialiste (PS). Most recently, he was from 2001 to 2010 a member of the Constitutional Council, the Constitutional Council.

Life

Pierre Joxe was born the son of Louis Joxe, a minister under General de Gaulle, and Françoise -Hélène Halévy in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. He is the grandson of the essayist Daniel Halévy and great-grandson of the playwright, dramatist and librettist Ludovic Halévy. Among his other ancestors is one of the watchmakers and physicist Louis Breguet. His brother is the sociologist Alain Joxe.

After acquiring a Licence en droit, he began his education at the École Nationale d' Administration ( ENA), which traditionally formed the elite of civil servants in France in June 1960. This training included Joxe from a member of the ENA - vintage Albert Camus in 1962.

In June 1962 Joxe started working for the Court of Auditors. After the election of François Mitterrand as President of the French Republic in 1981 Joxe was briefly Minister of Industry. In May 1988, Joxe was Home Secretary. Following the resignation of Jean -Pierre Chevènement in January 1991 he took the post of defense minister, which he held until March 1993.

Appointed on 26 February 2001 by the President of the National Assembly as a member of the Constitutional Council. He held until 12 March 2010 this office.

Private

Joxe devotes a part of his private life to the music. He plays piano since his childhood, which he learned from his grandmother, a pianist and cousin Georges Bizet. At the age of 60, he began playing the cello - playing with the motivation to play six cello suites by Johann Sebastian Bach.
