Pierre Laurent (politician)

Pierre Laurent ( born July 1, 1957 in Paris ) is a French economist, editor and politician of the PCF.

Life

Laurent is a son of former PCF deputies Paul Laurent. During his economics studies in Paris, he joined the Union of étudiants communistes ( UEC ), and led this student association of 1982 to 1985. According to his studies, graduating from the University of Paris 1, he worked as an economic journalist of the PCF daily newspaper L' Humanité, the editor in chief he was from 2001 to 2008.

Since 2000 he was also a member of the National Council of the PCF. On 20 June 2010 he was "national secrétaire " elected to succeed the PCF general secretary Marie- George Buffet with the new function name. On 5 December, he was elected Chairman of the European Left.
