Pierre Louis Rouillard

Pierre Louis Rouillard, ( born January 16, 1820 Paris, † June 12, 1881 ) was a French sculptor.

Life

Rouillard formed at the École des Beaux -Arts in Paris under Jean -Pierre Cortot, and debuted in 1837 at the Paris Salon with a lioness and let out a long series of animal figures and groups in wax, plaster, bronze and silver to follow.

However, he devoted his main activity of the decorative sculpture. He provided work for the Louvre, Paris Opera, and numerous private buildings. Particularly outstanding, he was Löwenbildner. For the fountain of the Palais du Trocadéro in 1878 he created a colossal bronze horse ( Cheval à la herse ), which is in the Musée d' Orsay in Paris today. From 1840 until his death he taught at l' École de dessin, today École des Arts Décoratifs.

Pierre Louis Rouillard was included in the Ordre des Palmes Académiques and the Legion of Honour.
