Pierre Poujade

Pierre Poujade ( born December 1, 1920 in Saint -Cere, Lot, † August 27 2003 in La Bastide- l'Évêque, Aveyron ) was a French politician.

His father was an architect. In 1953 he opened after he had completed his printing apprenticeship, a paper shop ( hence his nickname " le pape animal de Saint -Cere "). The dissatisfaction of the business over the perceived as unjust tax system introduced in 1955 establishing the UDCA ( l' Union de défense of commerçants et artisans - Union for the Defence of merchants and artisans ), which was named after its founder and chairman Poujadisten movement.

In addition to the fight against the " fiscal Gestapo " to put the Party for the French Algerians and had no fear of contact with anti-Semites. In 1956 it reached 11.6 % of the votes and could send 52 deputies to the National Assembly, including Jean -Marie Le Pen After the return of de Gaulle in 1958, the party fell back into obscurity.

Pierre Poujade retired from politics in 1983 to devote himself to his studies. From 1984 he was Vice President of the Confédération des syndicats producteurs de plantes alcooligènes ( CAIPER ).

Although he is assigned to the political right, he has in presidential elections every time the eventual winner supported ( Charles de Gaulle, Georges Pompidou, Valéry Giscard d' Estaing, François Mitterrand and Jacques Chirac ). An exception was only in 2002 when he campaigned for Jean -Pierre Chevènement.
