Pierre Vernier

Pierre Vernier ( born August 19, 1580 Ornans in the Franche -Comté, † September 14, 1637 same place ) was a mathematician, mint director of Burgundy, commander of the castle Ornans and the Council of the King of Spain.

Vernier worked mainly as an attachment engineer. In 1631 he published in Brussels a writing in which he presented his invention of the vernier scale, known in German vernier; with the help of linear and angular measurements could be performed more accurately than before.
