Pierrefonds-Roxboro

Pierrefonds - Roxboro is one of 19 arrondissements of the city of Montreal in the Canadian province of Québec. Prior to 2002, Pierrefonds and Roxboro were independent communities. In 2011, the 27.1 km ² large city district counted 68 410 inhabitants.

Geography

Pierrefonds - Roxboro is located in the west of the Île de Montréal as well as in the northern part of West Iceland region. The district area extends over a length of about 15 kilometers along the Rivière des Prairies, but is little more than a mile wide. Pierrefonds is located in the west of the district, in the east of Roxboro. Adjacent arrondissements the city of Montreal are L' Ile Bizard -Sainte - Geneviève in the northwest and Ahuntsic - Cartierville and Saint- Laurent to the east. Pierrefonds - Roxboro borders in addition to the following independent communities: Senneville to the west, Sainte -Anne- de -Bellevue in the Southwest, Kirkland in the south and Dollard -Des Ormeaux in the southeast.

History

In 1904, there was a separation of the town of Sainte -Geneviève and the founding of Sainte- Geneviève -de- Pierrefonds. But largely responsible was the influential politician Joseph -Adolphe Chauret. Two years earlier, he had built a stately home, this is the Pierrefonds Castle in France Oise modeled. 1958 was the church the city status, which was associated with the renaming in Pierrefonds.

The village Roxboro seceded in 1914 from Sainte -Geneviève -de- Pierrefonds and formed its own community.
