Geography

The municipality is located in the Pinzgau in Salzburg.

The municipality comprises the cadastral Aufhausen, Humer village, Piesendorf and Walchen.

Demographics

History

Was first mentioned in 1147 as urkündlich Piesendorf " Puesendorf ". This name derives from the Roman priest Boso. We know from first colonization around the Nagelköpfl by about 1500 BC In connection with the first mention of Walchen Friedrich, who was also Archbishop of Salzburg played a significant role. 1160 was the construction of the first Walcher castle. 1816 to 1803 the independent Archbishopric of Salzburg and managed with him Piesendorf to Austria and was until 1848 in Linz. After the Revolution of 1848 it came to the lifting of the subjects ratio of the peasants to the landlords and 1850 establishing the community Piesendorf. Previously, the peasantry was enslaved and had to deliver a large portion of the income to the landlords. The first mayor was elected Piesendorfs 1860. 1869 1352 inhabitants have already been counted. The first own school was built in 1880, previously was taught in Mesnerhaus. Until 1900 were 124 buildings in Piesendorf. In 1970 the development of a rapid progress, so that in 2002, already in 1200 the buildings were created. Today in Piesendorf 3720 inhabitants are located. (As of 2005) There is now, thanks to numerous large companies such as the SENOPLAST KLEPSCH & Co. GmbH (production of plastic products, especially films ) about 1000 jobs in Piesendorf.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the municipality is: In a divided shield above in red a standing silver bull with his head bowed in attack position, which is to show the strength of Walcher, down in silver a red alternating stages bar that is supposed to represent the battlements on the former large Walcher castle.

Tourism is the major industry today.

Traffic

The place is reachable by the Pinzgau Local Railway.

Furthermore, the B 168 runs through the town.
