Pieter Cornelisz van Soest

Pieter Cornelisz van Soest ( * approximately 1600-1620, Flowering 1640-67 ) was a Dutch marine painter who achieved recognition in particular through the depictions of contemporary naval battles.

Life

About him very little is known. In 1642 he received the citizenship of Amsterdam. He painted, among others, the Battle of the Downs ( 1639 ) and various battles of the English- Dutch War ( 1665-67 ), such as the raid on the Medway. He also portrayed the ships Comet Star and Eeendracht.

The battles he painted mostly in the panorama.
