Pieter Hasselaer

Pieter Pietersz Hasselaer ( born December 1, 1583 Amsterdam, † 1651 ) was a mayor of Amsterdam.

His father was Pieter Dircksz Hasselaer (1554-1616), merchant, brewer, Schepen (1595-1615) and a member of the Amsterdam Vroedschap, and the Aecht Pietersdr Persijn van Beverwaarde. He moved to the Alteratie ( 1578) from Haarlem to Amsterdam. In the same year Hasselaer worked in the brewery of Andries Boelens. As a merchant, he acted in Portugal and Spain. In 1594, Pieter was Dircksz Hasselaer a member of the Amsterdam city government and the Compagnie van Verre Bewindhebber. Hasselaer was from the year 1602 in the Dutch East India Company actively involved.

Pieter Pietersz Hasselaer was with Agatha Cornelisdr Hooft, a daughter of Cornelis Hooft, married. Pieter Hooft Corneliszoon was his brother in law. In 1626 he came as Schepen in the city government, which he chaired in 1635 and 1649 times between the years eight as mayor. In 1638 organized the regents to Hasselaer, Andries Bicker, Albert Burgh, Antonie van Waveren Oetgens and Abraham boom, the magnificent collection of the former French queen Maria de Medici in Amsterdam.
