Pieter Teyler van der Hulst

Pieter Teyler van der Hulst (* 1702, † 1778) was a Dutch textile manufacturer and collector. On Teyler the oldest public museum in his country goes back, the Teylers Museum.

Life

Pieter Teyler van der Hulst had Scottish ancestors who originally " Taylor " wrote itself. He was a son of Isaac Teyler van der Hulst and Marie. From his marriage with Helene Veynans Verchane had two sons, but both died in infancy.

Pieter Teyler van der Hulst put to extensive collections of art and antiquities, natural history specimens and scientific instruments, the travelers were able to visit with him. In his will, he donated it to a museum, which was opened in Haarlem in 1784. Founding director of the museum was Martinus van Marum Teylerschen.
