Pieter van Geel

Petrus Leonardus Bastiaan Antonius ( Pieter ) van Geel ( born April 8, 1951 in Valkenswaard ) is a Dutch politician ( CDA) and was dated 21 February 2007 to 10 June 2010 Group Chairman of his party in the States-General.

Life

Van Geel grew up with four younger siblings, his father worked in the Hofnar - cigar factory in Valkenswaard.

He studied urban planning at the Radboud University in Nijmegen and received his diploma in 1974. After graduation, he was city planner for the municipality Helmond until today van Geels residence. In 1988 he was town clerk. From 1987 to 2002 van Geel was a member of the Provinciale Staten ( Provincial Parliament) of North Brabant and from 1995 to 2002, member of the Gedeputeerde Staten ( Provincial Government ). 2002-2003 Van Geel sat for the first time in the Second Chamber of the States General. At the same time he was appointed Secretary of State for the Environment in 2002, which he remained until 2007. From 2006 to 2010 he was again a member of the Second Chamber.

Van Geel is lover of bike racing and a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
