Pieter Weening

Pieter Weening ( born April 5, 1981 in Harkema ( province of Friesland ) is a Dutch racing cyclist. Weening is considered climbing specialist.

Career

He became a member of the Rabobank cycling team in 1999, from 2004 he was a member of the Professional Division. In his first year as a professional a number of stage wins he achieved at smaller races. He also took part in the Tour of Spain.

In 2005 he drew attention to himself in the Basque Country Tour, when he led a long time on the royal stage and has been obtained from the field just before the finish line. At the Amstel Gold Race, he provided valuable team work for his teammate Michael Boogerd. The greatest success of his career he managed during the 2005 Tour de France when he won the 8th stage in a photo finish against Andreas Klöden for themselves. In 2012 he joined the Australian team GreenEDGE.
