Pietracamela

Pietracamela is a municipality with 296 inhabitants and is located near Fano Adriano and Tossicia in the Italian province of Teramo. The community Pietracamela among the most beautiful villages in Italy. The territory of the municipality lies within the boundaries of the National Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga. The town is a member of the Comunità Montana Gran Sasso.

Geography

Among the districts ( fractions) are Intermesoli and Prati di Tivo.

Borders the following municipalities: Fano Adriano, Isola del Gran Sasso d' Italia and L' Aquila.

The municipality is situated approximately 30 km from the capital of the province, the city of Teramo away.

The community is surrounded by many mountains. The largest among them is the Gran Sasso d' Italia ( 2912 m), which is approximately 6 km away.

History

Not much is known about the history of the community. The community was shaken in recent centuries several times lighter earthquake. There were, in most cases, no damage to people and animals. The last earthquake of 1950, however, some houses were heavily damaged.

Economy

The economy of the commune is mainly based on tourism. Thanks to the many mountains and hills in the area, the area is for walking. Because of their sometimes difficult accessible location, the municipality has not many economic contacts with the neighboring villages.
