Pietro Alessandro Guglielmi

Pietro Alessandro Guglielmi ( born December 9, 1728 in Massa di Carrara, † November 19, 1804 in Rome) was an Italian composer.

Life

Had first lessons from his father, then at Giacomo Puccini, from 1746 at the Conservatorio di Santa Maria di Loreto and finally at Francesco Durante in Naples, the son of Kapellmeister Jacopo Guglielmi († 1740 ibid * 1690 in Massa). In 1762 he was Kapellmeister in Dresden, after which he worked in Braunschweig and since 1767 in London. Since 1772, he again lived in Naples, 1793, he was Director of Music at San Pietro in Rome, 1797 San Lorenzo in Lucina.

The prolific composer wrote more than one hundred operas, nine oratorios, a Requiem, a Miserere, motet, symphonies, chamber music and sonatas and other pieces for the harpsichord and the pianoforte.

His son Pietro Carlo Guglielmi was a successful opera composer.
