Pietro Annigoni

Pietro Annigoni ( born June 7, 1910 in Milan, † October 28, 1988 in Florence) was an Italian painter. His painted in old master art works were based on the models of the Renaissance and refused to " contemporary " departure from realism. These two styles are reflected in all his works from still life, portrait, landscape painting to church frescoes. Not only in the latter he was an innovator of religious history painting.

Life

Annigoni was born on 7 June 1910 in Milan. In the late 1920s he lived mostly in Florence, where he was student of the Scuole Pie Fiorentine ( Piarist ). After successful completion there he became a student at the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno; his teachers were, inter alia, Felice Carena (painting), Giuseppe Graziosi (sculpture ) and Celestino Celestini (Figure).

His successful debut as an artist had Annigoni 1930, when he designed his first exhibition in Florence, together with other artists. In 1932, his first solo exhibition ( Bellini Gallery Palazzo Ferroni ), but two years later an exhibition in Milan around the country let him be known. From then on, he made many trips him, inter alia, the taken her to Germany, where he developed a great fondness for the German painting.

1937 married Annigoni in Florence Anna Giuseppa Maggini and had two children with her: Benedetto ( b. 1939 ) and Maria Ricciarda (* 1948). In the years 1945-1950 he created some of his most important works; including " Cinciarda ", " The Scarecrow " and " The Losers ". Together with six colleagues (Antonio and Xavier Bueno, Gregory Sciltiau, Alfredo Serri and others) decided and published Annigoni 1947 the Manifesto of the painter of modern realism (see realism).

Worldwide recognition learned Annigoni in March 1947, when in London invited him to the Royal Academy of Arts for their major annual exhibition. From there he was represented worldwide as well as in Italy regularly with exhibitions; after a few exhibitions in the UK, followed by several in Italy (Brescia, Florence, Rome, Turin, Verona, etc.). From 1958 Annigoni was always back in the U.S.; what the "Time Magazine " then was worth a cover image.

Pupil of Pietro Annigoni have included Lance Bressow, Luciano Guarnieri, Romano Stefanelli and Nelson Holbrook White.

Died in 1969 his wife Anna Giuseppa after a long illness. Pietro Annigoni died at the age of 78 years on 28 October 1988 in Florence. His final resting place he found on the Cimitero delle Porte Sante of San Miniato al Monte.

On 25 November 2008, opened the Museo Annigoni in Florence in the premises of the Villa Stefano Bardinis.

His works have been sold in major museums around the world, among others the Uffizi (Florence), Palazzo Pitti (Florence), Metropolitan Museum of Art ( New York), Royal Collection (Windsor ), National Portrait Gallery (London ), Vatican Museums ( Rome).
