Pietro Auletta

Pietro Auletta (* 1698 in Sant'Angelo a Scala at Avellino, † September 1771 in Naples) was an Italian composer and organist of the Baroque.

Life

Pietro Auletta received his musical training at the Conservatorio S. Onofrio in Naples, Nicola Porpora there was one of his teachers. Around 1724 he was Kapellmeister at the church of S. Maria La Nova, one of the main churches of the city state. His first comic opera "Il Trionfo dell'amore, ovvero Le nozze tra amici " composed for the Teatro Nuovo Auletta 1725 in Naples, a second opera " La Carlotta " was born a year later. A first heroic opera " Ezio " was performed in 1728 in Rome. Other operas were performed as so-called Pasticci, complete works of the composer composed several individual parts. His opera " Orazio " (1737) came in 1753 in Paris, also renamed as pastiche in "Il maestro di musica " under the name of Pergolesi for performance .. Another Auletta opera was performed in 1758 in Munich

His son Domenico Auletta (1723-1753) was known as an organist and composer of sacred music, especially of many psalms. He also left three harpsichord concertos.

Work

Overall Pietro Auletta created 17 operas. The few surviving works have, of a progressive for the time Neapolitan style. Apart from the oratorio "Il martirio di S Ferma Vergine " (1722) and the " Oratorio sacro " ( 1745) derived more spiritual and secular works such as motets, cantatas and arias from his pen. Also preserved is a three-movement symphony, with two oboes, two horns and strings.
