Pietro Caucchioli

Pietro Caucchioli ( born August 28, 1975 in Bovolone, Italy ) is an Italian former racing cyclist.

Sporting career

Caucchioli was a professional since 1999. In his first race he took part for the Amica Chips team that he already left after one year. From 2001 to 2004 he drove for the Alessio team and first appeared at the Tour de France. During this time he achieved his greatest success with two stage wins in the Giro d' Italia in 2001 and third overall in 2002. In 2005 he moved to Crédit Agricole, where he started his second Tour de France.

Doping

On 17 June 2009, the UCI announced that against Pietro Caucchioli and four other drivers due to abnormalities in their blood profiles doping procedures were initiated. The irregularities were observed due to the introduced in 2008 Biological pass.

A day later, on 18 June 2009, Caucchioli was suspended by his team Lampre. In June 2010, he was the National Olympic Committee of Italy ( CONI ) banned for doping for two years. The barrier was confirmed in March 2011 by the International Court of Sport CAS.
