Pietro Chiari

Pietro Chiari (* 1712 in Brescia, † 1785 ) was an Italian poet and novelist.

Pietro Chiari belonged to the Jesuits, later became a secular priest, and lived from 1747 to 1762 in Venice. 1748 took Chiari his work as a playwright of the troupe Giuseppe Imer at the Teatro San Samuele in Venice. There he staged La Scuola delle Vedove, a parody of Goldoni Vedova scaltra. 1754 he was in Venice by the Duke of Modena Francesco III. d' Este crowned court poet. He wrote in a short number of years, more than 60 comedies, by which he sought to compete with Carlo Goldoni. Pietro Chiari last lived again in Brescia.

His dramatic works collected appeared as Commedie (Venice 1756, 10 volumes, and Bologna 1759-62 ), which must be added Nuova raccolta di commedie (Venice 1762) and Tragedie (Bologna 1792) came.
