Pietro Filippo Scarlatti

Pietro Filippo Scarlatti ( born January 5, 1679 Rome, † February 22, 1750 in Naples) was an Italian composer, organist and choirmaster.

Pietro Filippo - the eldest child of the composer Alessandro Scarlatti and a brother of the also famous as a composer Domenico Scarlatti - began his musical career in 1705 as choirmaster of the cathedral of Urbino. His father brought him in 1708 to Naples, where he worked as an organist at the royal court.

In 1728 he composed his only known opera Clitarco ( premiered at the Teatro San Bartolomeo in Naples ), the score of which, however, is missing. His other major works include three cantatas and a variety of toccatas for piano or organ.
