Pietro Lombardi

Pietro Lombardi ( born June 4, 1922 in Bari, † October 5, 2011 in Bari ) was an Italian former wrestler. His greatest achievement was the victory at the 1948 Olympic Games in London in the flyweight ( Greco- Roman).

Career

Pietro Lombardi was one of five brothers from the southern Italian Bari. In 1938 he started with the rings and developed within a few years under the guidance of coach Pietro and Ferdinando Sciannimanico Lapalorcia one of the best Italian wrestler in the Greco-Roman style in the easy classes. On 19 July 1942, he played in Rome against Germany its first international match and won it on Georg Pulheim from Cologne to points.

His debut at an international championship he gave in 1947 at the European Championships in Greco-Roman wrestling in Prague. In the flyweight starting Lombardi won a battle and reached the 7th place. At the 1948 Olympic Games in London you could see another Pietro Lombardi. He won five fights, he had to deny and was Olympic champion.
