Pietro Nobile

Peter von Nobile ( born October 11, 1774 Campestro ( Switzerland ) as Pietro Nobile, † November 7, 1854 in Vienna) was an Austrian architect and master builder.

Life and work

Peter von Nobile is regarded as a leading architect of the late classicism in Vienna. He took, among other lessons in Rome and Trieste in Antonio Canova and in 1819 director of the architecture department at the Vienna Academy. His main works in Vienna include the outer castle gate at Heroes Square and the 1819-1823 built popularly garden Theseustempel. Furthermore, it was built according to plans, the Nobile's Grazer Schauspielhaus after its fire 1823. Another important site of action was the Austrian port of Trieste, where he in 1817 Palazzo Costanzi and 1842, the Church of Sant'Antonio Nuovo Borgo Teresiano built.

His grave is located in Vienna's Central Cemetery (Group 14 A, number 46 A); transferred from the St. Marx Cemetery. In 1894 in Vienna Penzing ( 14th district ) and Rudolf -Fuenfhaus ( 15th district ) was named the Nobilegasse after him.
