Pietro Ostini

Pietro Ostini (* April 27, 1775 in Rome, † March 4, 1849 in Naples) was an Italian cardinal.

Life

Pietro Ostini studied theology in the Roman Seminary and was ordained a priest on March 3, 1798. After that, he was long a professor of church history. Besides, he exercised more priestly activities and worked as a theologian for various cardinals. From 1817 Ostini worked for several Cardinal Congregations of the Roman Curia, for example, as consultant to the Congregation De Propaganda fide. In the late phase of the papal restoration, he became one of the most influential people in the spiritual Rome. In 1823 he was to be Vicar Apostolic in Chile, but because of his brother of the resistance he declined the appointment. 1827 by Pope Leo XII was Ostini. appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Switzerland.
