Pietro Parente

Cardinal Pietro Parente ( born February 16, 1891 in Casal Nuovo Monterotaro, Foggia, Italy, † December 29, 1986 in Rome) was archbishop of Perugia.

Life

Pietro Parente received his theological and philosophical education in Benevento, Rome and Naples. He received on 18 March 1916, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then headed for ten years as rain, the Seminary of Naples. From 1926 to 1934 and from 1940 to 1955, he worked as a lecturer at the Pontifical Lateran University and was a member of the Holy Office. In the years 1934 to 1938 he served as rector of the Pontifical Athenaeum " De Propaganda Fide ", in the years 1938 to 1940, he founded the theological and canonical School in Naples. 1940 Parente came back to Rome.

1952 Pope Pius XII appointed him. apostolic prothonotary, 1953 to the canons of the basilica of San Pietro in Vaticano, 1955 Archbishop of Perugia. The bishop ordained Pietro Parente on 23 October 1955 by Cardinal Federico Tedeschini in St. Peter's Basilica; Co-consecrators were Traglia Luigi and Pietro Sigismondi. Pope John XXIII. appointed Pietro Parente 1959 Assessor of the Holy Office and Titular Archbishop of Ptolemais in Thebaid.

Pietro Parente participated in the years 1962-1965 at the Second Vatican Council. There he first belonged to the conservative wing, but overturned in September 1964 on the side of Giuseppe Alberigo, which called for greater collegiality of the bishops. In December 1965 he became secretary of the CDF. From this office he resigned in 1967. Pope Paul VI. took him on 26 June 1967 as cardinal priest with the titular church of San Lorenzo in Lucina to the College of Cardinals. Cardinal Parente died on December 29, 1986 95 -year-old in Rome and was buried in the shrine " Vergine della Rocca " in Casal Nuovo Monterotaro. When he died, he was the oldest cardinal of the world.

Pietro Parente is now considered one of the most important Italian theologian of the Roman school of the 20th century.
