Pietro Sorri

Pietro Sorri (* 1556 in San Gusmè, † 1622 in Siena ) was an Italian painter.

Life

The painting he first learned at Arcangelo Salimbeni in Siena. Later he studied with Domenico Cresti (also Domenico Passignano and Il Passignano called ), whose daughter he later married. At the beginning of his career he followed the style of Mannerism, especially the later Venetian mannerism of Passignano, the Robustis ( Tintoretti ) and Paolo Veronese. The Tintoretti and Veronese he learned during his stay in Venice know ( 1582-1587 ). Among the masterpieces of his first creative period in Siena is one of the Epiphany in the Cathedral of Siena ( altar of the Magi, 1588). From 1592 to 1595 he was active in Lucca, where he frescos and oil paintings left behind in numerous churches. Between 1595 and 1597 he lived in Genoa, where Giovanni Carlone and Bernardo Strozzi belonged to his pupils. After that, he lived in Pavia to customize Alessandro Casolani in the Certosa di Pavia frescoes. In 1599 he returned to Siena, where he had another four years active. During this time, Astolfo Petrazzi belonged to his pupils. The year 1603 he spent in Pistoia, where he left the cathedral (San Zeno, together with his father- Il Passignano) and the Basilica della Madonna dell'Umiltà other works. Then he painted in Florence, where he Ottavio Vannini with (* September 15, 1585 in Florence; 1653 † ibid. ) Capella Brunaccini the Basilica della Santissima Annunziata completed in 1605. In Florence he remained until 1610. His works in the Convento de las Descalzas Real Valladolid created by a gift of Cosimo II de ' Medici to Spain of that time. From 1610 to 1612 he lived in Rome, after which he returned to Siena, where he died in 1622.
