Pietroasa (Bihor)

Pietroasa (Hungarian Vasaskőfalva ) is a municipality in the district of Bihor in Romania.

Location

Pietroasa is by the river Crisul Pietro - a tributary of the Crisul Negru ( Black yelp ) - on the western edge of the Bihor Mountains in Crisana. The county town of Oradea is located about 70 km north-west.

Population

Of the approximately 3,300 residents of the community live about 900 in the actual village Pietroasa. In 2002, here designated by the then 913 914 inhabitants as Romanians.

In the overall community lived in 2002 a total of 3458 people, of which 3267 Romanians, Roma 187, 3 Hungary, and one member of a non-descript other nationality.

Traffic

Pietroasa is located on the county road 763, which branches off near Sudrigiu of the running in the valley of the Crisul Negru European route 79. From the place run several times daily buses to the nearest town Beiuş and to Oradea (as of 2008 ). The nearest train station is located about ten kilometers west of the town in Sudrigiu on the railway line Vascau - Ciumeghiu.

Attractions

The most famous tourist attraction of the village is the cave Peştera Ursilor (about Bear Cave ) near the community part Chişcău. A few hundred meters away is an ethnographic museum.

Pietroasa is the starting point for hikes in the Bihor Mountains.
