The presently used boat hook or boat hook is a rod with a hook at the end. In contrast to the grappling hook as a means of attack you use this mainly to fish objects or people out of the water or - to use on other boats or the investors - including the boat. With the top you can pull the trigger by the investor.

Boat hooks are used in sailing, such as when the spinnaker or genoa should be streamlined short or the vang should be tensioned more at a jibe. There are models in which the end of a paddle is designed as a boat hook, this design is popular on small dinghies.
