Pilcomayo Department

Pilcomayo is a department in the province of Formosa in the north of Argentina and is one of nine administrative units in the province.

It is bordered to the north and east, Paraguay and on the south by the department of Formosa and to the west by the departments Pilagás and Pirané. It has an area of ​​5342 km ² with 78 114 inhabitants with a population density of 14.6 inh. / Km ².

The capital of the department Pilcomayo is Clorinda.

Geography

The National Park Pilcomayo River is approximately 45 kilometers west of Clorinda and is drained by the Río Pilcomayo.

Population

According to calculations by the INDEC, the population increased from 78 114 inhabitants (2001) to 93 160 inhabitants in 2005.

Structure

The department Pilcomayo is divided into a first class municipality ( Clorinda ), a town of the second category ( Laguna Blanca ), the two municipalities third category Laguna Naick Neck and Riacho He- Hé, the Comisión de Fomento Siete Palmas and the Juntas Vecinales Provinciates Palma Sola, Puerto Pilcomayo and Riacho Negro.
