The Schopfschnäppertyrann ( Xenotriccus mexicanus ), sometimes simply called Flycatcher, is a species of bird in the genus Schnäppertyrannen ( Xenotriccus ). The stock is assessed by the IUCN as Near Threatened ( Near Threatened ). The bird is considered monotypic.

Features

The Schopfschnäppertyrann reaches a body length of about 13.5 to 14.5 centimeters. The upper part of the beak is black, while the lower part is pink orange. The legs are dark gray. The head and the top varied between Olive Drab and grauoliv. The eye-ring and the reins (area between beak and eye ) are whitish. The wings and tail are dark. At the coverts, umbrella springs and the secondaries he has two white stripes, respectively. The throat is white. The chest has a washed dark tone and goes into a washed lemon color on the belly over.

Distribution area

The bird has been previously observed in Mexico in an area that extends across the states of Michoacán Morelos over to Oaxaca. In summer you can spot him in the area around Monte Albán. In winter it migrates to the warmer climes of the valley of the Río Balsas. In addition, there were observations in the National Park Laguna del Tigre in the department of Petén in Guatemala.

Habitat

This species is relatively common in dry mountain scrub at altitudes 900-2000 meters in front. Here one most frequently sees him on mesquite. The Schopfschnäppertyrann preferably thorny woodlands. More rarely, one can observe him in half-open übergrasten agar surfaces.

Behavior
