Pilsner Urquell

Pilsner Urquell ( Czech Pilsner Urquell ) is since 1842 in Pilsen Pilsner Urquell of produced beer. The Pilsner Urquell is considered the first produced by Pilsner beer, almost all known later lagers are based on this original Pilsner beer. For the production of Saaz hops from the traditional areas in northern Bohemia is being used. The brand name refers to the place of origin Pilsen.

History

Due to the poor quality of beer in the early 19th century in Pilsen, the brewing legitimate German citizens decided to build a new brewery, the " Civil Brauhaus " in order to create the technical conditions for the production of a modern bottom-fermenting beer. In spring 1842, the Pilsner builder Martin Stelzer called the Bavaria Josef Groll for the first brewmaster. The Civil brewery was continually expanded in the following years and in the year 1913/1914 the annual production for the first time exceeded one million hectoliters. 1898, the Pilsner Urquell trade mark was registered.

Pilsner Urquell is brewed 2004-2011 in the Polish Tychy, where the Pilsner Urquell brand was first produced outside the Czech Republic. After removing the Pilsen brewery production in Poland has been set. The beer for over 50 countries since then is brewed exclusively in Pilsen.

Special

Except in barrels, the beer comes in green bottles. In contrast to the brewed in Germany Pils varieties, which usually have an alcohol content of 4.8% to 5.0 %, the Pilsner Urquell has a relatively low alcohol content of 4.4%.
