Pinaka Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher

Pinaka is an Indian multiple rocket launcher system, which was developed in the 1980s by the Indian DRDO armaments factory. The vehicle is based on the Tatra 815 truck model

Description

The multiple launcher Pinaka rocket can burn up to a maximum range of about 42 kilometers. Twelve launch tubes are available for each vehicle. The whole system consists of three vehicles: from the starter vehicle, a replenishment vehicle to recharge the launcher and from the Feuerleitfahrzeug. A battery consists of six rocket launch vehicles. The Pinaka is an area with an area of 1000 by 800 meters show with fire and is intended to complement the already existing in the Indian army rocket launchers, which have a range of less than 30 kilometers. Furthermore, the system with 23 million Rs is compared to foreign systems by far the cheapest. It was originally planned in 1994 to introduce the Pinaka system in the Indian army, but due to several production problems did not succeed. Only in 2000 the development phase has been completed. In addition, the originally planned budget has been exceeded. In 2006, finally, 40 vehicles were ordered.
