Pine Hill is a village in Ulster County in the U.S. state of New York with 308 inhabitants (as of 2000) and is located in a popular ski resort. The place belongs to the municipality of Shandaken, which is 10 km west.

Geography

The town is in the Catskill Mountains, within the Catskill State Park on Route 28 and is located about 180 km north- west of New York City and 95 km south-west of Schenectady away. It consists of the village center, which is located in the valley at the height of the old Route 28 as well as from individual houses that stretch along the Birch Creek Road up the mountain.

History

The settlement of Pine Hill was built in the late 17th century, but the town grew after 1872, when the Ulster and Delaware Railroad there moved its railroad tracks and opened a station. The tourist boom time in the last century, there were about 20 accommodation establishments in Pine Hill, hosted the ski guests especially during the winter season. Today only three hotels are still operated. Between 1896 and 1986 the village was a separate municipality.
