Course of Pinios

Pinios (Greek Πηνειός ) is an approximately 70 km long river in the northwest of the Peloponnese peninsula.

The river rises on the southern side of the mountain Erymanthos and flows thence in a westerly direction through the south of the plain of Elis, where it ends at Gastouni in the Ionian Sea.

Since the sixties was massively intervened in the river. Worth mentioning is particularly the construction of a two-kilometer long dam at Kendro ( Κέντρο, 37 ° 53 ' 43 "N, 21 ° 26' 53 " O37.8952821.44802 ). Thus, the Pinios Dam was built ( Τεχνητή Λίμνη Πηνειού ), eight kilometers long and up to seven miles wide, with an area of ​​19.895 km ².
