Biography

History, influences

Piney Gir was born in Kansas City and grew up in Missouri. Her father, a follower of the Pentecostal Church (German: Pentecostalism ), had an aversion to worldly things like pop music. Since the age of four, she took piano lessons, and in the community she was " the little girl with the good voice" ( quote from an interview ). After her parents divorced in 1989 and she moved away with her mother, began a new life for Piney Gir. So it is no wonder that the church music they are less influenced than the favorite of her bands Depeche Mode, Erasure and The Cure. From 1992 to 1998 she studied classical music and fine arts, and took a few courses on contemporary music. Then she moved to London. In 1999, she graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design courses in fashion, film and metal processing. Since then she has worked for the label Mute Records.

Vic Twenty

As a singer and keyboardist, she supported Adrian Morris, who appeared under the name Vic Twenty. The name alludes to the computer Commodore VIC 20 and emphasizes the musical style of this formation: synth pop. After just one single, which was released on Mute Records, Piney Gir left in 2003 Vic Twenty.

The suppression La Las, Solo

Since then she has one hand, member of the girl band The La Las repression, but on the other hand also active as a soloist and performs the opening act for Erasure. In July 2004, the solo debut album Peakahokahoo appeared under the label Truck Records. What is striking is her Cockney accent and an ironic, humorous style of many pieces. This is especially true for the title KISSING and for the duet sung with Simple Kid Night Song. Apart from Que Sera Sera ( originally performed by Doris Day ) and an idiosyncratic megafonverzerrten version of the Who classic My Generation album includes original compositions. Guest musicians are the long-standing backing singers of Erasure - Val ( erie ) Chalmers and Ann -Marie Gilkes - to hear the Piney Gir had met during her time with Vic Twenty. For the second album Hold yer horses ( 2006), several pieces of the debut were recorded again.
