Pingala

Pingala was an ancient Indian grammarian and mathematician.

He is the author of the oldest Sanskrit text to prosody, the Chandahshastra. The date is uncertain and deviates to the first centuries before and after Christ's birth - traditionally it is ranked around 400 BC. In the 10th century, the mathematician Halayudha wrote a commentary on the Chandahshastra.

In Chandahshastra there in connection with the discussion and classification of metrics a form of the binary ( and thus its probably earliest mention ), there is a form of Binomialsatzes and the Fibonacci numbers. The comment of Halayudha brings a form of Pascal's triangle.
