Rose Warbler ( Ergaticus versicolor)

The Rose Warbler ( Ergaticus versicolor ) is a small passerine bird in the family of warblers ( Parulidae ). The species occurs in Mexico and Guatemala. It is "endangered" by the IUCN since 2000 as conducted ( Vulnerable ).

Features

Rose Warbler reach a body length of 13 centimeters. The wing length is 5.6 to 6.6 inches in the male, the female, 5.7 to 6.2 centimeters. Adult Rose Warbler has a pink - silver head plumage and a dark pink forehead, between the beak and the eye it is slightly darker. The rest of the head feathers and the neck, throat and tummy are pale silver - pink. The top is red with maroon shoulders and coat. The wings are dark brown and the bottom is purple. The beak is dark brown; the legs flesh-colored.

Resources, nutrition and reproduction

The occurrence is limited to southeast Mexico ( Chiapas ) and the highlands in Guatemala from east to Sierra de las Minas. The animals inhabiting cypress forests, pine forests, mixed pine - oak forests and forest edges with dense undergrowth at altitudes 2000-3800 meters, but are mainly above 2800 meters to find. Their diet consists mainly of insects and other invertebrates that they are looking mainly in the dense shrubbery.

The nest is created on the ground. It is dome- shaped with a side entrance. As nesting material use Rose Warbler pine needles and moss for indoor use. A clutch consists of two to four eggs. The incubation period is eleven days. The young birds fledge after ten to eleven days.

Hazard and inventory

The IUCN lists the species as "endangered" ( Vulnerable ), the main hazard is the high degree of fragmentation and continued destruction of forests used as living space. In Chiapas the Rose Warbler mid-1980s was rare, possible cause was the eruption of the volcano El Chichón in 1982, were covered in the large parts of the area with ash. In the late 1980s, the stocks rose slightly. The Birds BirdLife International estimates the backlog at 20,000 to 50,000 individuals.
