Pinky is an American film directed by Elia Kazan in the year 1949. It is based on the novel by Cid Ricketts Sumner Quality.

Action

Patricia Johnson, named Pinky, is a light-skinned African-American. She returns after a few years, where she studied medicine in Boston and trained as a specialist nurse back to her village in the deep south of the USA. In the north, she met the doctor, Dr. Thomas Adams know and love, but the thought that she was a white woman. She always called himself while studying Patricia and conceal their origin. She lived on an equal footing.

In her home town she lives with her grandmother Dicey who teased her when her mother died. Dicey has worked hard for years as a laundress to enable Pinky her studies. Now she realizes that her granddaughter has denied its origin in a foreign country and is outraged. Pinky again experienced after a short time everyday racism. She wants to reclaim at Diceys neighbors Jake money that Dicey gave him for Pinky and he not sent to them. Jake's wife Rozelia begins to dispute with Pinky, but she believes that it was not their money. The police intervene to protect the "white " before the " blacks". As Rozelia thinks Pinky was also black, to be taken every three to the police station, although nothing against them. Production

The shooting of Pinky began in March 1949, directed by John Ford, who was replaced after one week for health reasons by Elia Kazan. Kazan turned by new Ford already filmed scenes.
