Piotr Michałowski

Count Piotr Michałowski ( born July 2, 1800, Krakow, † June 9, 1855 in Krzysztoforzyce in Kraków) was a Polish painter.

Life

Even as a 13 - year-old boy he took art lessons with Michał Stachowicz and continued his education painter Józef Brodowski and 1817 with 1818 at Franciszek Lampi continued. In addition to art Michałowski studied mathematics, natural sciences, economic sciences and the humanities at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, as well as law and history at the University of Göttingen. 1827-1830, he led the organization of the iron and steel industry in the State Treasury Commission in Warsaw. After the defeat of the November Uprising, for which he organized the weapons and munitions production, he fled to Paris. From there he returned to Krakow in 1835 in the Austrian part of Poland back. 1848-1853 he served as Administrationsrat the city of Krakow.

In his spare time he was a painter. He painted mainly portraits, battles and images of horses. He is considered one of the most important representatives of Romanticism in Polish painting. His paintings Pablo Picasso during his visit to Warsaw attention.
