Piotr Nowak ( born July 5, 1964 in Pabianice ) is a former Polish footballer and current coach.

Playing career

Nowak began at age 15 in his hometown to play soccer. He played for GKS Belchatow, Zawisza Bydgoszcz, Motor Lublin and the first Polish league in Widzew Łódź.

From Poland he went in 1990, the first Turkish league to Bakirköyspor.

Finally Over the BSC Young Boys in Switzerland, he came to Germany to Dynamo Dresden. His most successful period was spent between 1995 and 1998 at TSV 1860 München.

During his time in Munich 1996, he was voted the best playmaker of the Bundesliga, as well as in his native Poland Footballer of the Year. During this time he was captain of the Polish national team. In total, he completed 24 caps and scored 3 goals for Poland.

In 1998 he moved to the U.S. professional league for team Chicago Fire SC, which he led to victory in Major League Soccer and twice winning the U.S. Open Cup.

In 2002 he moved to New England Revolution, where he finished without having made a game of his career.

Coaching career

Nowak began his coaching career at the Washington DC club United and took in his first season to the MLS Cup in 2004. In December 2006 he left the office down to work in January 2007 as assistant coach of the U.S. national team and coach of the U23 national team of the United States. These duties he fulfilled until May 2009.

From 2010 until his dismissal in June 2012 Nowak coached again in the MLS, this time the league - newcomer Philadelphia Union.

Others

For his achievements, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
